Federal Officials Confirm Active Criminal Investigation Involving Rep. Ilhan Omar Over Past Immigration Claims

White House border czar Tom Homan has publicly confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security is currently examining allegations involving Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. Speaking in an appearance on "The Sunday Briefing," Homan verified that federal immigration authorities are actively handling what he termed an ongoing criminal inquiry, marking a notable escalation in public commentary from top administration figures regarding the high-profile progressive lawmaker.

During the television interview, Homan maintained a cautious stance when questioned about the specific operational details and scope of the federal review. When asked directly whether government agencies possess definitive proof that Omar committed immigration fraud or naturalization fraud, the border czar declined to provide specifics, explaining that he could not release sensitive materials or operational details concerning an active probe.

Despite declining to reveal evidentiary specifics, Homan emphasized that federal authorities are taking the matter seriously. He acknowledged that official steps are actively being carried out behind the scenes, noting that while he could not disclose the precise developments underway, the underlying allegations had been reported months prior and warranted formal administrative and investigative attention.

Homan reinforced the administration's stance on equal enforcement of federal statutes, stating that public office does not shield individuals from legal scrutiny. He asserted that if an individual has committed an immigration violation, entered into marriage fraud, or engaged in related offenses, the law applies equally regardless of whether the subject is a sitting member of the United States Congress, adding that no one is above the law.

The enforcement review is being handled by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a key investigative arm operating under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Homan affirmed that ICE is actively looking into the claims, reiterating that federal investigators within HSI should be permitted to proceed with their work without outside interference or premature conclusions regarding the outcome.

The scrutiny centers on long-standing allegations promoted by political critics asserting that Omar entered into a fraudulent marriage with a man who detractors claim is her brother as part of an elaborate immigration scheme. These accusations have trailed the Minnesota congresswoman across multiple political cycles, though the allegations have never been proven or substantiated in public records.

Omar has steadfastly and repeatedly denied the entirety of the allegations, pushing back against the narrative as a politically motivated attack. In previous remarks and statements posted to social media, the representative dismissed the recurring accusations as "bigoted lies" and condemned former President Donald Trump and Republican critics for harboring a relentless obsession with her personal background.

The congresswoman has also lashed out at what she described as "sick" Republican officials who continue to amplify and investigate the claims surrounding her past marriage. Omar has maintained that the persistent focus on her history is baseless and designed to generate political controversy rather than address legitimate legal matters.

Homan’s televised remarks follow recent statements made by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin during a podcast interview. Mullin publicly declared that administrative actions were forthcoming, alleging that Omar had married her brother to facilitate his entry into the United States and stating that the individual now resides in London.

Secretary Mullin further suggested that federal scrutiny could encompass broader questions regarding her entire family’s migration history to determine whether any illicit activity occurred during their initial entry into the country. Mullin stated that if the government can prove an individual was not legally entitled to enter the country in the first place, federal authorities will seek deportation proceedings.

The Department of Justice has likewise been mentioned in connection with inquiries into Omar's immigration record. Vice President JD Vance previously stated in May that justice officials were reviewing whether immigration fraud had taken place, remarking that public accounts regarding whom Omar married appeared suspicious while noting that all individuals are entitled to equal justice under the law.

Vance's comments followed an earlier podcast appearance with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, during which the vice president revealed that he had engaged in discussions with White House immigration advisor Stephen Miller regarding potential legal proceedings against the congresswoman. During that discussion, Vance explicitly stated his belief that Omar had committed immigration fraud against the United States.

Federal statutes outline a formal denaturalization framework that allows the government to revoke citizenship in proven cases of naturalization or immigration fraud. Homan characterized this legal pathway as exceptionally serious, emphasizing that if an individual is proven to have provided fraudulent information during the legal process of becoming an American citizen, substantial legal consequences apply.

As Homeland Security Investigations continues its inquiry without public disclosure of formal charges or specific evidence, the developments signal an intensifying political and legal confrontation between senior administration officials and one of the nation's most prominent congressional figures.
